An international nonprofit campaign works to end dog bite rabies through vaccination and education. Launched in 2013 with a 30 day drive vaccinating over 60,000 street dogs, it now operates globally with teams and local partners.
To date, the initiative has vaccinated over 2 million dogs and taught 5 million children safe behavior around dogs. It operates as a project of a UK-registered charity and a 501(c)(3) organization in the US. Programs combine school visits and clinics to boost coverage and reduce rabies cases.
We had to overcome many technological barriers to develop a scalable system that delivers consistent results across vaccination programs.
Field teams traveled to and operated in areas with poor internet access and limited electricity, requiring offline capabilities with minimum battery usage.
Large volumes of data have to be collected on the field, which needs processing daily for analytics, smart reports, and program management.
Dogs require multiple vaccinations over their lifetime to prevent rabies. Hence, keeping a record of vaccinated dogs was a crucial data point to manage.
We implemented a central management system with a cloud-based, scalable backend that records data on vaccinated dogs, areas covered, success graphs, and more.
Developed an offline-capable frontend with battery optimization features and automatic data sync when connected to the internet, ensuring uninterrupted functionality in remote areas.
Built a back-office portal with remote task assignment capabilities and swift communications, along with precise location targeting and path tracking systems.
Integrated custom dashboards for data visualization, improving decision-making and supporting team direction and project management.
Integrated microchips to uniquely identify each dog. During field visits, the app connects to chip scanners to access records instantly and make informed vaccination decisions.
Our solution led to successful campaigns across different regions and helped optimize critical operations like data collection and remote program management and monitoring.
Successfully recorded vaccination for 1M+ dogs, awareness programs for 3M children & adults, and field surveys across 16 countries.
Curated data reports enabled successful fundraising from major organizations like Dogs Trust Worldwide and MSD Animal Health.
Multiple organizations adopted Mission Rabies’ model for vaccine programs, including the CDC using a similar approach for human vaccinations in the U.S.
